Indie Prize: Submission Guidelines and Deadline For China 2019

Staff, Friday, July 19th, 2019 7:45 pm

We haven’t introduced you to Indie Prize yet. At least, not formally. Since applications have been closed for our U.S. show for a few weeks at this point, we want indie developers to get geared up for our next Indie Prize Showcase, which will be in Shenzhen, China on November 10-12, 2019.

Indie Prize is an inextricable piece of GameDaily Connect that allows indie developers access to our events and to network with other indies, potential partners, vendors, and maybe even find that indie publisher that you’ve been looking to connect with.

“Indie Prize, when it started, was a showcase,” Indie Prize director, Yuliya Moshkaryova, said in an interview with GameDaily earlier this year. But it wasn’t before long that Moshkaryova saw Indie Prize as something much more.

For developers who are unsure about attending GameDaily Connect, because it’s an industry event with corporate-types and suits kicking around in the same space, Moshkaryova encourages indies to embrace the business of making games.

“When they come to GameDaily Connect, they see the other side of this industry—the business side of the industry,” she said in the same interview. “When they interact, that’s a miracle. I think it’s magical. That’s what GameDaily Connect does. We combine all those pieces like a puzzle.”

Attending GameDaily Connect is a must for any potential Indie Prize participants, as that’s where you’ll get the bulk of the value of your submission. There are a limited number of games chosen in accordance with the judges’ scoring, so an application will not guarantee you a spot in the Indie Prize Showcase. Selected Indie Prize participants will receive conference passes (2 passes at most) to the GameDaily Connect show that you’ve submitted your game to in addition to being a part of the developer showcase at GameDaily Connect. 100 Indie Prize participants will be selected from a wide array of regions around the world to take part in GameDaily Connect China.

All submissions must have 15 minutes of gameplay and should be a vertical slice that can be played from start to finish in that 15 minutes.

In order to be considered an “indie,” we do ask for a couple of qualifications:

  1. The company is independent and majority owned by the team. Team has sold less than 50% of the company to outside investors.
  2. At least 50% of the submitted game IP must be owned by the development team.

Indie Prize submissions for the 2019 Shenzhen, China show will be accepted until September 10, 2019. You can submit your application for Indie Prize China here.
